एक लड़का दालिया उछालकर खा रहा था। उसमें से एक दालिया खोड (छापरा) में गिर गया।

लड़का बोला, "खोड खोड, दालिया दे।"

खोड बोला, "जा, नहीं दूँगा।"

लड़का फिर सूथार के पास गया। वह सूथार से बोला, "सूथार, सूथार, खोड काट।"

सूथार बोला, "जा, नहीं काटूँगा।"

लड़का फिर राजा के पास गया। उसने राजा से कहा, "राजा, राजा, सूथार को दंड दे।"

राजा बोला, "जा, नहीं दूँगा।"

लड़का फिर रानी के पास गया। उसने रानी से कहा, "रानी, रानी, राजा से नाराज हो जा।"

रानी बोली, "जा, नहीं नाराज होऊँगी।"

लड़का फिर उंदर के पास गया। उसने उंदर से कहा, "उंदर, उंदर, रानी का चीर काट।"

उंदर बोला, "जा, नहीं काटूँगा।"

लड़का फिर बिल्ली के पास गया। उसने बिल्ली से कहा, "बिल्ली, बिल्ली, उंदर को मार।"

बिल्ली बोली, "जा, नहीं मारूँगी।"

लड़का फिर कुत्ते के पास गया। उसने कुत्ते से कहा, "कुत्ता, कुत्ता, बिल्ली को मार।"

कुत्ता बोला, "जा, नहीं मारूँगा।"

लड़का फिर लकड़ी के पास गया। उसने लकड़ी से कहा, "लकड़ी, लकड़ी, कुत्ते को मार।"

लकड़ी बोली, "जा, नहीं मारूँगी।"

लड़का फिर आग के पास गया। उसने आग से कहा, "आग, आग, लकड़ी को जलाओ।"

आग बोली, "जा, नहीं जलाऊँगी।"

लड़का फिर पानी के पास गया। उसने पानी से कहा, "पानी, पानी, आग बुझा।"

पानी बोला, "जा, नहीं बुझाऊँगा।"

लड़का फिर हाथी के पास गया। उसने हाथी से कहा, "हाथी, हाथी, पानी सुखा।"

हाथी बोला, "जा, नहीं सुखाऊँगा।"

लड़का फिर मच्छर के पास गया। उसने मच्छर से कहा, "मच्छर, मच्छर, हाथी के कान में बैठ जा।"

मच्छर तो हाथी के कान में बैठने लगा! हाथी बोला, "अरे! अरे! मेरे कान में मत बैठो। मैं पानी सुखा रहा हूँ।"

पानी बोला, "नहीं भाई, मुझे सुखाओगे नहीं। मैं आग बुझाऊँगा।"

आग बोली, "नहीं नहीं, मुझे बुझाओगे नहीं। मैं लकड़ी जलाऊँगी।"

लकड़ी बोली, "नहीं मुझे जलाओगे नहीं। मैं कुत्ते को मारूँगी।"

कुत्ता बोला, "नहीं भाई, मुझे मारोगे नहीं। मैं बिल्ली को मारूँगा।"

बिल्ली बोली, "नहीं मुझे नहीं मारोगे। मैं उंदर को मारूँगी।"

उंदर बोला, "नहीं नहीं, मैं रानी का चीर काटूँगा।"

रानी बोली, "नहीं भाई, मैं चीर नहीं काटूँगी। मैं राजा से नाराज होऊँगी।"

राजा रानी से बोला, "नहीं नाराज होओगी। मैं सूथार को दंड दूँगा।"

सूथार बोला, "नहीं नहीं, मैं खोड काट कर दूँगा।"

खोड बोला, "नहीं मुझे नहीं काटोगे। मैं लड़के को उसका दालिया दूँगा।"

और इस तरह लड़के को उसका दालिया मिल गया!

Once, a boy was tossing dalia (a kind of snack) and eating it. One of the dalias fell into a khoḍ (a kind of hole or pit).

The boy said, "Khoḍ, khoḍ, give the dalia!"

The khoḍ replied, "Go away, I won't give it."

The boy went to the blacksmith (suthar) and said, "Blacksmith, blacksmith, cut the khoḍ!"

The blacksmith replied, "Go away, I won't cut it."

The boy then went to the king and said, "King, king, punish the blacksmith!"

The king replied, "Go away, I won't do that."

The boy then went to the queen and said, "Queen, queen, get angry with the king!"

The queen replied, "Go away, I won't get angry."

The boy went to the mouse and said, "Mouse, mouse, cut the queen's clothes!"

The mouse replied, "Go away, I won't cut it."

The boy went to the cat and said, "Cat, cat, kill the mouse!"

The cat replied, "Go away, I won't kill it."

The boy went to the dog and said, "Dog, dog, kill the cat!"

The dog replied, "Go away, I won't kill it."

The boy went to the stick and said, "Stick, stick, hit the dog!"

The stick replied, "Go away, I won't hit it."

The boy went to the fire and said, "Fire, fire, burn the stick!"

The fire replied, "Go away, I won't burn it."

The boy went to the water and said, "Water, water, put out the fire!"

The water replied, "Go away, I won't put it out."

The boy went to the elephant and said, "Elephant, elephant, dry up the water!"

The elephant replied, "Go away, I won't dry it."

The boy then went to the mosquito and said, "Mosquito, mosquito, sit on the elephant's ear!"

The mosquito went and sat on the elephant's ear. The elephant shouted, "Oh no! Oh no! Don't sit on my ear. I am drying up the water."

The water replied, "No, brother, I won’t dry it. I am putting out the fire."

The fire said, "No, no, I won’t be put out. I am burning the stick."

The stick said, "No, I won’t burn. I am hitting the dog."

The dog said, "No, brother, I won’t be hit. I am killing the cat."

The cat said, "No, don’t kill me. I am killing the mouse."

The mouse said, "No, no, I won’t kill. I am cutting the queen's clothes."

The queen said, "No, brother, I won’t cut the clothes. I will get angry with the king."

The king said to the queen, "No, you won’t get angry. I will punish the blacksmith."

The blacksmith said, "No, no, I won’t punish. I will cut the khoḍ."

The khoḍ said, "No, I won’t cut it. I will give the boy his dalia."

And finally, the boy got his dalia!
